Midjourney V7 was released on 3 April 2025 and was the default model from 17 June 2025 to 9 June 2026. Current Midjourney documentation covers V8.1 and V8.2, so this page explains V7 as a previous model.
What V7 introduced
Draft Mode supported faster, lower-cost exploration of an image idea before spending more time on a finished version. Use it to compare compositions and prompts, then check the result at the quality you actually need.
Omni Reference let a reference image guide a person, object or creature in a V7 generation. A reference is guidance, not a guarantee that every detail will stay identical. Inspect the output for consistency, distorted details and unwanted changes.

Choose a model for your task
Record the model version, prompt and settings when comparing results. Test the same brief and judge the images against your needs: composition, readable text, identity consistency and editing effort. Review permissions for any reference image and avoid depicting a real person misleadingly.
A newer version does not establish that it will work better for every brief. Use the currently available model that meets your criteria, and keep an export of the useful result.
