Prompt objective

Win featured snippets for priority keywords, increasing organic traffic and brand awareness without improving traditional organic positions.

Real use case

Direito Fácil, a consumer rights portal with 150 articles, ranks in positions 3-7 for 60% of its main keywords but has no featured snippets. Competitors in Position Zero capture 8x more clicks for the same keywords. The editor wants a specific strategy to win snippets, as they don't have budget for aggressive link building.

Prompt

Create a complete strategy to win featured snippets for [SITE NAME], in the [NICHE] niche, focusing on the [NUMBER] articles with the highest Position Zero potential.

**What are featured snippets and the different types:**

**Paragraph snippet (most common — 82% of snippets):**
- Answers 'what is', 'why', 'how it works'
- Format: 40-60 words of plain text
- Optimization: direct answer paragraph right after the H2 heading with the question

**Numbered list snippet:**
- Answers 'how to do', 'steps to', 'process for'
- Format: OL list with 5-10 items
- Optimization: H2 with the question + OL with concise steps

**Bulleted list snippet:**
- Answers 'types of', 'examples of', 'benefits of'
- Format: UL list with 5-10 items
- Optimization: H2 with the question + UL with concise items

**Table snippet:**
- Answers comparisons, prices, specifications, data
- Format: HTML table with header and 3-7 rows
- Optimization: descriptive H2 + semantic HTML table

**PHASE 1 — Opportunity Identification:**

**Criteria for a good snippet opportunity:**
1. Already ranks between positions 2-10 for the keyword (easier to win snippet when already relevant)
2. The keyword has an active snippet (check if one exists — if not, there's a vacant opportunity)
3. Significant search volume (minimum [X] searches/month in target market)
4. Clear informational intent (question or 'how to')

**Tools to identify opportunities:**
- Ahrefs: Content Explorer > filter by 'SERP features' > 'Featured snippet' > find keywords where competitor has snippet but you don't
- SEMrush: Keyword Magic Tool > filter by 'Featured snippet'
- Google Search Console: keywords with low CTR but position 1-5 (competing snippet reduces your CTR)
- Google manually: search [KEYWORD] in incognito mode and observe existing snippet

**PHASE 2 — Current Content Audit:**

For each page with snippet potential:
1. Is there an H2 with the exact question or close variation?
2. Right after the H2, is there a direct answer in 40-60 words? (for paragraph snippet)
3. If it's 'how to': is there an OL list with steps? Does each step have 3-8 words?
4. Does the content answer the question BEFORE providing context?
5. Does the page rank between positions 2-10 for the snippet keyword?

**PHASE 3 — Optimization by Snippet Type:**

**For paragraph snippet:**
- H2: '[EXACT QUESTION USERS SEARCH FOR]?'
- Immediate paragraph (40-60 words):
  '[KEYWORD] is [DIRECT DEFINITION]. [EXPANDING SENTENCE]. [OPTIONAL CONTEXT SENTENCE].'
- Don't use bullet points here — plain text for this type
- Don't start with 'According to', 'In this article', 'Based on' — get straight to the point

**For numbered list snippet (process/steps):**
- H2: 'How to [DO SOMETHING]?' or 'Step-by-step guide to [ACTION]:'
- Immediately followed by:
  ```
  <ol>
    <li>Step 1: [Concise action in 5-8 words]</li>
    <li>Step 2: [Concise action in 5-8 words]</li>
    ...
  </ol>
  ```
- Google typically displays 5-8 items — list the most important ones first
- Step elaboration can come after the list

**For table snippet:**
- Descriptive H2: '[COMPARISON/DATA] of [TOPIC] in [YEAR]'
- HTML table with thead and tbody, max 7 columns, max 9 rows
- First columns with most relevant data
- Explanatory text: can come before or after the table

**PHASE 4 — Additional Content That Increases Snippet Chance:**

- People Also Ask (PAA): add section answering PAA questions for the keyword
- FAQ Schema: mark questions with FAQPage schema
- Update with date: 'Updated [MONTH YEAR]' at the beginning of the article
- Accuracy: cite sources (Google trusts content that cites verifiable sources)

**PHASE 5 — Monitoring and Adjustment:**

- Check weekly whether the snippet was won (manual search or Ahrefs Rank Tracker)
- If not won in 30 days: revise content, check if competitor optimized better
- If won: monitor CTR in Search Console (snippet typically increases CTR by 20-30%)
- If snippet is lost: competitor may have improved content — audit and re-optimize

**Program goals:**
- [X] snippets won in 60 days
- Average CTR increase of [Y]% for keywords with snippets
- Increase in impressions from being in Position Zero
